Summary
Combinations of proteolytic enzymes orally administered in the systemic enzyme
therapy may have some immunomodulatory effects. On principle, they may operate
beneficially in the prevention and/or combinated therapy of some diseases especially
with the inflammatory etiology. At the present, the presumed immunonormalizing
effects of these preparations are not sufficiently demonstrated yet. The possibility
of more precise administration of the enzyme preparations in different diseases
treatment would be certainly improved after better explanation of their mechanism
of action on the molecular and cellular level as well as with the greater number
of controlled clinical studies.
